Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum Review - My Soothed Skin Superstar

There are times when my skin does not necessarily need another anti ageing serum. It simply feels unsettled.

That can mean redness looks more noticeable, the skin feels tight or uncomfortable, or products that normally behave perfectly suddenly feel like too much. Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Rescue Solution appealed to me because it is designed for exactly that sort of moment.

Despite sharing the Advanced Night Repair name, this is not the famous brown bottle serum. Rescue Solution is a separate 20ml treatment containing 15% Bifidus Ferment, with the emphasis much more on comfort, visible sensitivity and supporting skin that feels stressed.

That difference is important, because I would buy the two products for quite different reasons.

This is not the original Advanced Night Repair serum

The naming could easily cause confusion.

Advanced Night Repair Synchronized Multi Recovery Complex is Estée Lauder's well known serum for hydration and visible signs of ageing. Rescue Solution sits within the same family, but it is much more specifically focused on skin that feels sensitive, irritated or out of balance.

The formula contains 15% Bifidus Ferment alongside soothing yeast extract and Tripeptide 32. Estée Lauder has developed it with sensitive skin in mind, and the texture is noticeably lighter than I expected.

For me, Rescue Solution makes the most sense when my skin needs calming down rather than when I simply want another layer of anti ageing skincare.

That distinction also means I would not choose between this and the original Advanced Night Repair purely based on which one sounds more impressive. They do different jobs.

The texture is one of its best features

Rescue Solution has a very light, fluid texture that spreads easily across the skin.

It feels cooling when first applied and sinks in quickly without leaving the sort of rich or sticky finish I sometimes associate with barrier focused products. That makes it particularly easy to fit underneath the rest of my skincare.

I only need a small amount. I smooth it over clean skin, give it a moment to settle and then continue with the rest of my routine.

One thing I appreciate is that it does not feel as though I am adding another heavy layer when my skin is already irritated. When skin feels sensitive, the last thing I usually want is five rich products sitting on top of one another.

Rescue Solution feels almost weightless by comparison.

When I actually reach for it

This is not something I feel the need to use simply because it is sitting on my dressing table.

I find it more useful when my skin looks stressed, feels unusually tight or has become uncomfortable after I have overcomplicated my routine.

Sometimes that means I have used too many active products too close together. At other times my skin simply feels more reactive than usual.

My approach in those situations is to simplify everything rather than trying to treat the irritation with even more actives. Rescue Solution fits nicely into that sort of pared back routine because it feels lightweight and comforting without making the skin feel overloaded.

I then follow with moisturiser, and SPF during the day.

If I am using the standard Advanced Night Repair serum as well, Rescue Solution goes on first.

What did I notice from using it?

The most immediate difference for me was comfort.

When my skin felt unsettled, Rescue Solution made it feel calmer and less tight after application. The overall surface also looked more hydrated and less stressed once the rest of my routine had settled.

Visible redness did not suddenly disappear, and I would not describe this as a treatment that fixes every reason skin might be irritated.

That matters because redness can have plenty of causes. If skin is reacting badly to a product, severely irritated or dealing with an ongoing skin condition, adding an expensive serum does not solve the underlying problem.

Where I found Rescue Solution useful was in helping my skin feel more comfortable while I simplified everything else.

Estée Lauder has its own consumer testing showing improvements in comfort and visible signs of sensitivity, but those are the brand's results rather than a promise that everyone's skin will respond in exactly the same way.

For me, this works best as supporting skincare rather than an emergency cure.

Is it really suitable for sensitive skin?

This is one of the occasions where the sensitive skin positioning is not simply something added by a retailer.

Estée Lauder specifically developed Rescue Solution with sensitive skin in mind.

That said, I still do not think any skincare product should be described as guaranteed irritation free. Sensitive skin varies enormously, and someone reacting to one ingredient may have a completely different experience from someone else.

My skin found the formula comfortable, but I would still introduce it sensibly if your skin is particularly reactive.

I would also look carefully at the rest of the routine. There is little point adding a soothing serum while continuing to use an exfoliating acid, strong retinoid and several other active treatments on skin that is already protesting.

Sometimes the most useful thing you can do is remove products rather than add another one.

Rescue Solution vs Advanced Night Repair Serum

This is probably the most important comparison because the similar names make it easy to assume they are alternatives.

They are not really.

Rescue Solution is the one I would choose when my priority is visible sensitivity, redness, tightness or general skin discomfort. It has an extremely light texture and is designed around the 15% Bifidus Ferment complex.

The original Advanced Night Repair Serum has broader aims. It is much more about hydration, radiance and the appearance of lines, firmness and general signs of ageing.

You can also use the two together.

Estée Lauder recommends applying Rescue Solution first and following with Advanced Night Repair if both are part of your routine. I like that order because the lighter Rescue Solution disappears into the skin very quickly.

Would everybody need both? No.

If my skin was comfortable and my main concern was general ageing and hydration, I would choose Advanced Night Repair.

If my skin was regularly becoming reactive or visibly stressed, Rescue Solution would have the clearer role.

The price is difficult to ignore

This is a 20ml serum, so it is expensive for the amount of product you receive.

That makes it harder to recommend casually.

I would not buy Rescue Solution as a general moisturising serum or simply because I like Estée Lauder. There are far less expensive ways to add hydration to a routine.

The value makes more sense for someone who specifically struggles with sensitive, easily unsettled skin and enjoys premium skincare.

I also would not automatically pay the first price I see.

Who do I think Rescue Solution is for?

I think this makes most sense for someone whose skin regularly feels unsettled but who still wants a very lightweight skincare routine.

It could be particularly appealing if you dislike thick barrier creams or find that rich formulas become uncomfortable when layered underneath the rest of your products.

I would also consider it if you already enjoy Advanced Night Repair but occasionally want something more specifically focused on skin comfort.

I would be less likely to recommend it if your only concern is dehydration. A good moisturiser or hydrating serum can address that for considerably less money.

And if your skin is persistently red, painful or irritated, I would not rely on Rescue Solution to cover up the problem. That is the point where understanding what is causing the reaction becomes more important than adding another cosmetic product.

Can I use Rescue Solution every day?

Yes, it can fit into a regular morning and evening routine.

I tend to judge it by what my skin needs rather than feeling obliged to use it twice a day. When my skin feels comfortable, I do not automatically add extra products for the sake of using them.

Can I use Rescue Solution with Advanced Night Repair?

Yes. Rescue Solution goes on first, followed by Advanced Night Repair Serum and then moisturiser.

They are complementary products rather than duplicates.

Can I wear it under makeup?

The lightweight texture makes it easy to use in a morning routine. I allow it to absorb, follow with moisturiser and SPF, then give those layers time to settle before applying makeup.

Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair Rescue Solution makes much more sense once you stop thinking of it as another version of the original Advanced Night Repair serum.

It is a lightweight treatment for those periods when skin feels uncomfortable, reactive or simply not quite itself.

The biggest benefit for me is the combination of comfort and texture. It feels cooling and light, disappears quickly and does not make an already complicated skincare routine feel heavier.

I also appreciate that it can be used underneath Advanced Night Repair rather than forcing you to choose between the two.

The downside is clearly the price. Twenty millilitres does not go very far for the money, and I would not recommend buying it unless the sensitivity focused formula genuinely addresses something your skin struggles with.

For the right skin, though, I can see why it earns a place alongside the original ANR rather than competing with it.
