Retinal around the eyes sounds slightly intimidating.

The skin there is thinner, more delicate and often the first place to show dryness, so I was interested to see whether Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum could give me the benefits of a vitamin A product without making the whole area feel uncomfortable.

What makes this particularly appealing is the price. It is much more affordable than most premium eye treatments, comes in a generous 30ml tube and combines encapsulated retinal with ginseng, niacinamide and moisturising ingredients.

For me, the main question was not whether it could completely erase fine lines. It was whether I could use it consistently enough to make the eye area look smoother without triggering dryness.

The texture feels more like a light cream than a serum

Despite the name, this does not feel like a watery facial serum.

The texture is light and creamy, spreads easily and settles without leaving a sticky finish around my eyes. I need very little for both sides, which also means the 30ml tube lasts a surprisingly long time.

I gently pat a small amount around the orbital area rather than rubbing it aggressively into the skin.

It absorbs well and leaves enough moisture behind that I do not always feel the need to add another eye cream on top.

The formula is fragrance free, which I also appreciate around the eyes.

How I introduced retinal around my eyes

I did not start using this twice a day from the first application.

Retinal is still a vitamin A ingredient, and the eye area is not somewhere I want to test how much irritation I can tolerate.

I prefer using it in the evening and introducing it gradually.

At first, I leave gaps between applications and pay attention to how the skin feels the following day. If everything remains comfortable, I can increase how regularly I use it.

Beauty of Joseon says it can be used morning or evening, but sunscreen is essential during the day.

Personally, evening use makes more sense to me. It keeps the routine simple and means I am not layering retinal immediately underneath several morning products.

What did I notice with continued use?

The first improvement I noticed was hydration.

The skin around my eyes felt softer and looked less crepey when it was properly moisturised.

With continued use, fine lines also appeared slightly smoother. I would not describe that as the lines disappearing, but the overall texture looked more even and less dry.

The eye area also looked a little fresher.

Beauty of Joseon reports an 8.65% improvement in the appearance of wrinkles after two weeks in one of its own small studies. I would treat that as brand testing rather than expecting everybody to see exactly the same result in exactly two weeks.

My own experience has been much more gradual.

This is the sort of product where consistency matters more than expecting a dramatic change after a handful of applications.

Does it help dark circles and puffiness?

I would keep expectations realistic here.

My eye area looked brighter when the skin was hydrated and smoother, but I would not rely on this serum to remove genetic dark circles.

Darkness around the eyes can come from pigmentation, thin skin, shadows, vascular colour and several other factors.

The same goes for puffiness.

I noticed the overall eye area looking fresher, but I would not buy retinal primarily as a treatment for morning fluid retention or pronounced under eye bags.

The strongest reason to use this serum is the combination of hydration and gradual improvement in the look of fine lines and texture.

What about irritation?

This is the part I would take seriously.

Beauty of Joseon has designed the formula to be relatively approachable, but retinal can still cause dryness, flaking or irritation if you introduce it too quickly.

If the skin around my eyes starts feeling tight or uncomfortable, I reduce the frequency rather than pushing through it.

I also keep the rest of the routine fairly simple.

Beauty of Joseon advises against combining the serum with AHA, BHA or PHA products because the combination may increase irritation.

I would not deliberately bring strong exfoliating acids close to the eye area on the same evening anyway.

If your skin is very sensitive, patch testing first and introducing it slowly makes much more sense than assuming a gentle formula cannot irritate.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Because this contains retinal, Beauty of Joseon advises avoiding the product during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

I would follow that guidance rather than trying to find a way around it.

There are plenty of hydrating eye products without vitamin A ingredients that can be used instead during that period.

Does it work underneath concealer?

Yes, provided I use a small amount and let it settle properly.

The texture is light enough that it does not leave a thick layer under makeup.

I would not apply a large amount immediately before concealer because too many creamy layers around the eyes can eventually make makeup move.

With a small amount, my concealer sits comfortably over it and the eye area looks nicely moisturised.

If I use the serum in the morning, I also make sure I finish with SPF.

Can you use it elsewhere on the face?

Yes.

Beauty of Joseon says the formula can also be used across the face, even though it is primarily marketed as an eye serum.

That makes the 30ml size particularly good value.

I sometimes think eye products become unnecessarily expensive simply because they come in tiny packaging. This gives you enough product to use around the eyes and, if you want to, on areas such as smile lines or the forehead.

I would still introduce it gradually rather than suddenly applying retinal everywhere every night.

Is Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye Serum good value?

I think this is one of its biggest strengths.

You get 30ml, which is generous for an eye treatment, and the price is far below many premium formulas containing vitamin A ingredients.

That makes it a relatively low risk way to find out whether you actually enjoy using retinal around your eyes.

I would be more cautious if your eye area is already extremely dry, irritated or reactive.

And if your main concern is puffiness rather than fine lines or texture, I would probably choose something else.

The product is good, but it is still important to match the ingredient to the problem you actually want to address.

Can I use it every night?

Potentially, yes.

I prefer building up gradually and only using it as often as my skin remains comfortable.

There is no prize for reaching nightly use faster.

Do I need another eye cream on top?

Not always.

I find the formula moisturising enough on its own on many nights.

If the eye area feels particularly dry, I can add a simple moisturising eye cream afterwards.

Can I use it with other retinoids?

I would avoid stacking several vitamin A products around the eye area.

If I am already using a strong retinoid elsewhere on the face, I keep the eye routine simple and watch carefully for irritation.

It feels light and comfortable, gives the eye area enough moisture and has gradually helped the skin look smoother around fine lines.

The most important thing is not rushing it.

Retinal can still irritate, even in a gentle looking K beauty formula, and I think this works best when introduced slowly rather than used aggressively.

I also appreciate that the 30ml tube is generous enough to use beyond the eye area if you want to.

For the price, it is a very sensible option for somebody curious about adding retinal to their eye routine without spending premium skincare money.
