YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer Review: Is It Worth It?

The YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer is one of those makeup products that looks beautiful before you have even used it.

The clear gel, gold flecks and heavy bottle make it feel unmistakably luxurious, but a pretty primer still needs to make foundation look better.

I wanted a smoothing base that would take away some visible texture without leaving my skin completely matte. I also wanted to know whether the gold particles created a genuine glow or made the skin look glittery.

After using it underneath different foundations, I found it worked best as a silky, radiance focused primer rather than a strong gripping or oil controlling base.

The texture and gold flecks

The texture is a clear, silky gel that spreads very easily across the skin.

I used one small pump and applied it with my fingers, working from the centre of my face outwards. It has plenty of slip, so a little goes much further than you might expect.

Once blended, it leaves the skin feeling noticeably smoother. The silicone style texture helps soften the appearance of uneven areas and gives foundation an easier surface to glide over.

The gold flecks look quite obvious inside the bottle, but I did not find them glittery once the primer was blended into my skin.

Instead, they gave a subtle light reflecting finish. My face looked more polished and slightly more radiant, rather than sparkly.

How it worked under foundation

I allowed the primer to settle briefly before applying foundation.

The main difference was how smoothly my base applied. Foundation moved easily over the skin without catching as much on drier or more textured areas.

The primer did not feel tacky. It creates slip rather than grip, so the experience is very different from products designed to hold foundation in place with a sticky finish.

My makeup continued to look smoother through the day, although I would not promise an exact wear time. The result will depend on the foundation, powder, skin type and conditions.

I found it particularly useful underneath foundations that can look slightly flat or matte. The radiance from the primer helped the finished makeup look more natural and less heavy.

Under an already very dewy foundation, I would use less. Too many luminous layers can become more shine than glow.

Can you wear it without foundation?

Yes.

Worn alone, the primer gives bare skin a smoother and more polished appearance. It does not provide coverage, but it can make the face look a little fresher.

I liked it on light makeup days with concealer, brow product and mascara.

The finish is subtle enough that it does not look like obvious shimmer across the face.

Very oily skin may want something more controlling, especially if shine is the main concern.

The formula is also fragranced. My skin found it comfortable, but very sensitive or reactive skin may prefer to patch test rather than assuming every luxury primer will suit it.

These primers serve different purposes.

YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer feels silky, smoothing and radiant. It helps foundation glide over the skin and gives the finished base a more polished glow.

e.l.f. Power Grip Primer feels tackier and is more focused on helping makeup grip onto the skin.

I would choose YSL if I wanted smoothness, slip and luminosity.

I would choose e.l.f. if my priority was a sticky base designed to hold makeup in place.

The YSL primer feels more luxurious, but the e.l.f. option may make more sense if grip and affordability matter more than the sensorial experience.

Is YSL Touche Éclat Blur Primer worth the price?

This is not an essential product, but it is a very enjoyable one.

There are cheaper primers that can smooth the skin, and others that provide stronger grip or oil control.

What YSL does particularly well is combine a beautiful texture with subtle radiance. It makes foundation easier to apply and gives makeup a polished finish without obvious glitter.
